"Sustainability anchors the design ethos at Hotel Gotham through the considered work of Elvis & Kresse, whose pieces can be found throughout the hotel. Using reclaimed materials, including decommissioned fire hoses, they’ve supplied a range of bespoke items, from menu holders and bill wallets to coasters and do-not-disturb tags.
At the hotel’s entrance, a striking installation created from a fire hose honours the building’s former purpose. Functional, tactile and rich with narrative, each item has been designed exclusively for Hotel Gotham, with 50% of the profits donated to The Fire Fighters Charity. Elvis & Kresse has donated £332,257.78 to The Fire Fighters Charity.
Kresse Wesling, Co-Founder of Elvis & Kresse, said: “We are so honoured to work with Hotel Gotham Newcastle, this stunningly reimagined fire station is the perfect home for our rescued fire hoses. We loved the challenge of creating the large woven fire-hose wall panels – they are entirely unique and celebrate the scars, marks and colour variations of genuine British hoses that have been saving lives for up to 25 years.
We’ve been working with these materials for two decades, always with a focus on sustainability and impact. Hotel Gotham offers a bold and brilliant platform to showcase circular design at its best – stylish, meaningful and full of character.”
From March 2026, a selection of Elvis & Kresse items will be available to purchase from the hotel’s reception shop, offering guests the opportunity to take home a piece of the hotel’s design story.
